Education


University of Winnipeg

From Sep 2011 – Feb 2013 I attended classes at the UofW taking an English Major in the Creative Writing Stream. I had to drop out due to mental illness during the Winter 2013 term and have not continued since. I have a C+/B average in what I did manage to complete.

Red River College

From Oct 2001 – Feb 2005 I attended technical classes at RRC as part of my Power Electrician Apprenticeship. I finished the Journeyman’s Exam with 89% and received a Red Seal Certificate.

From Sep 1998 -Aug 2001 I attended RRC’s Electrical Technology program. I did not complete the program as I was hired on by Manitoba Hydro and would receive the training anyway. I was three courses short when I quit to attend my apprenticeship.

University of Manitoba

From Sep 1995 – May 1998 I attended the UofM’s Faculty of Engineering with a major in Mechanical Engineering. I was an Aboriginal Student attending through Engineering Access Program (ENGAP). I finished about 1.5 years worth of the degree and quit when I was placed on academic probation.

Miles McDonell Collegiate

From Sep 1990 – Jun 1993 I attended MMC starting in the International Baccalaureate (IB) stream. By grade 12 I had dropped mostof the IB courses and was enrolled in mainstream High School. I achieved University Entrance Level graduation with an 80% average.

Work Experience


Security Resource Group (SRG)

For the duration of Jun 2013 -May 2014 I worked for Avion/SRG security in two distinct postings. The first was with Avion at the Millennium Library on a part time basis. When the fall came there were staff cutbacks and I was re-posted to 411 Cumberland as the full time midnight guard. I left due to my mental health.

Portage ESSO

For the duration of May 2011 – Feb 2013 I worked for the Portage ESSO as a cashier. I was responsible for the cleanliness of the store, stocking shelves /coolers, maintaining a float, and customer needs. I quit due to my mental health.

Karl’s Smoke Shop

From Jan 2009 – March 2009 I was employed at Karl’s Smoke Shop on Long Plains Reservation. I was responsible for making sales, maintaining an accurate smoke count, maintaining a float, making coffee/hot dogs/popcorn. I was fired for closing a 24hr store and driving a girl to her home.

Flying J

From Feb 2008 – Dec 2008 I was employed by Flying J near Portage La Prairie/Bowes Trailer Court. I was maintenance/cashier and was responsible for keeping a float, stocking shelves/coolers, keeping the store clean, keeping refreshments fresh and stocked. I quit due to mental health problems.

ENMAX

From Jan 2007 – Jan 2008 I was employed by ENMAX of Calgary as a Power Systems Electrician Journeyman. I worked with a variety of people doing different things, mostly Substation Inspections. I also did relay maintenance and preformed switching duties in the Network.

JESCO Electrical Contractors LTD

From Aug 2006 – Dec 2006 I was employed as a contractor to ENMAX through Jesco Electrical Contractors Ltd. I mostly preformed Station Inspections with a seasoned Journeyman from ENMAX.

From Oct 2005 – Jul 2006 I worked a variety of shifts with the East End 7-11 in Portage La Prairie. I was responsible for ordering tobacco, store cleanliness, maintaining a float, food freshness, stocking shelves/coolers.

Manitoba Hydro

From Oct 2001 – Apr 2005 I earned a Power Electrician’s certificate through an Apprenticeship. I was hired by the Electrical Construction Department and ultimately worked for them on various types of construction jobs.

Club Regent Casino

For 6 months in 1998 I worked Valet for Guest Services at Club Regent. I was responsible for the timely parking and retrieval of vehicles and working the desk ‘calling for vehicles’.

Manitoba Hydro

From 1995 – 2001 I worked consecutive summers as a student ground tester. First year I worked in Winnipeg and tested ground installations all over the city. The second and consecutive years I worked in Eastern Region and tested grounds all over the southeast side of the province and was based out of Selkirk.

VentRight Sheet Metal

I worked as the assistant shear operator also responsible for the automatic bandsaw, forklift, and general yard maintenance. Later on I was placed on nights as the shear operator responsible for the best use of raw material and the accurate cutting of pieces.

Subway Salads and Sandwiches

From 1991 to 1994 then 1996 – 1998 I worked for Subway as a sandwich artist. I first worked weekend nights, and then eventually started on the morning opening shift. I was responsible for maintaining afloat, store cleanliness, maintaining stock levels (shredding lettuce, cutting tomatoes, preparing meat packages, etc), and serving customers.

Winnipeg Free Press

I worked as a relief paper carrier in North Kildonan in 1990. Sometimes I would manage up to 3 routes at once.
