Helping Winnipeggers

Just when you are stuck, just when you are in need, just in time: Winnipeggers come through. I believe in Miracles and today me and my friend received one from a complete stranger.

Last night I agreed to take my friend’s wife to the Access Building on Main Street via bus for an appointment with her doctor. I was a nervous wreck all night as I seen the snow blowing and building piles on the sidewalks outside. I dreaded her NOT getting there as it was needed for her disability funding and dreaded waking to find it impossible to push her in her wheelchair to the required stop.

When I woke the storm had stopped, but the nightmares lingered and I went to scout the sidewalks. It wasn’t as bad as I thought but still very slushy and deep across several swaths of our intended route. I came back and phoned my friends… She was determined to follow through so true to my word we headed out.

Things where fine till I hit the first patch of snow… We got stuck… Stuck again… Stuck yet again. I was about to go be up and turn around when a passerby came and gave some advice about getting her to the other side of the road where the sidewalk was not as bad.

I told her where we were trying to get to and why. The sort of thing that happens world wide, in every city, in every country then unfolded. The lady told us she would pay for cab fare and took forty dollars out of an ATM at the store below our building and handed it to me. We thanked her profusely and accepted the gift… Again from a perfect stranger.

I called a Handicapped able taxi and we arrived at my friend’s appointment just in time… The forty allowed for us to have the taxi wait for us and return us home with enough for a $2 tip for the driver.

Whoever you were, you helped as much as anybody could have… Especially a Winnipegger!!! 😍😍😍 Many thanks to you stranger, and believe me we will return the favour!
