Well here I am on a bus headed from Sudbury, Ontario to Union Station in Toronto. I just took off one night after deciding enough was enough and having long been pissed at the rut I found myself stuck in while in Winnipeg‘s Westend. I’m schizophrenic and on CPP. I didn’t have much of a future there anymore… prolly never did.
Back to leaving. I was up one night and just decided to hitchhike to the East Coast to get work on ships. Roughly midnight on 12th June, 2022 I left my apartment building with a suitcase of food and a backpack of clothes and other stuff I thought I would need for travel. I decided to walk out of town to the perimeter and get a ride to wherever along the TransCanada Highway.
I had just crossed a dangerous bridge that had narrow shoulders and stopped for a break when luck found me and I was able to thumb a ride, at least to Seden’s Corner where there was a truck stop. After rethinking and concluding that I see people do it all the time I set out again. I caught a ride from a man named Charles who dropped me at the turn-off to Steinback.
While there I contemplated sleeping under the overpass bridge as it was threatening to storm but it was only 11am and there was still plenty of daylight left so out went the thumb. I caught a ride from a nice fellow who dropped me at the gas station in Pravda. I knew of an old Boy Scout camp in the area and planned on staying the night.
I ate canned Pineapple chunks and cold Alphagetti before crawling up a tree stand to sleep for the night. I don’t have a sleeping bag, but used a coat for a pillow. I slept fine despite the cool reality of a mosquito infested bog. I did wake up to find a few wood ticks had attached to me in the night, but soon they where picked off.
Due to the kindness of the second driver to pick me up I walked back to the Pravda townsite and ate breakfast with the cash he gave me… Sausage, Fried Eggs, Hash browns, Toast and Coffee. Thanks Charles!!!
Now refreshed and energized I headed back to the highway to continue my voyage…
